Paso Robles Wineries

The Paso Robles winery region, possibly the most well-known of the four San Luis Obispo appellations, sits atop the coastal mountain range of central California.

Each of the Paso Robles wineries benefits from the widest swing of daytime and nighttime temperatures in the state of California. The average daytime temperature in Paso Robles is around ninety degrees and the nighttime temperature around forty-five. Containing some of the most diverse wine country in California, the Paso Robles winery region has vineyards ranging from just 700 feet above sea level to 2,000 feet.

Signature Paso Robles Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon

The Paso Robles appellation is home to over 170 wineries; accounting for over 20,000 acres of grapes. Over one third of this land is devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon, which is by far the most popular of varietals in the Paso Robles wineries.

The distinct flavor of this particular wine in Paso Robles makes it a favorite among most connoisseurs, and a common target when wine tasting in Paso Robles. Most agree that the Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles wineries is fruity and balanced, without any harsh aftertaste. The smooth and subtle flavor of this local wine is certainly one not to miss.

Year Round California Wine Tasting in Paso Robles

Wines in Paso Robles are so popular that wine tasting is held throughout the year. The mild winter climate allows for a great Paso Robles wine tasting experience at any time, year round.

Visually, the rolling hills of Paso Robles are a great setting for a unique wine tasting tour that will be unforgettable. As mentioned before, there are over one hundred seventy wineries, most of which are family owned and operated. Many of these small and friendly operations welcome visitors to try out a sample at any time.

The small nature of these Paso Robles wineries prevents them from shipping nationwide, or sometimes even statewide, and laws restricting the shipping of wine to certain states means that often times the only way to try out these exquisite wines is to go directly to the winery itself.

Paso Robles Wine Tasting Events

The annual Paso Robles Wine Festival is held on the third weekend of May. For well over twenty years this event has taken place in downtown Paso Robles.

The Paso Robles wine tasting event features more than just the average sampling; there are also seminars, free water, as well as excellent cheese varieties and other food that make a wonderful pair with the huge array of over 100 different Paso Robles wines.

(Sign up early for next year's festival, tickets go quickly!)

Paso Robles Wine Region Landscape

The Paso Robles wineries get their diversity from the wide variety of landscapes. The rolling hills and mountainous regions are absolutely beautiful, and when combined with the picturesque and elegant city architecture a perfect setting for fine wine is born.

Perhaps after visiting a Paso Robles winery, the Hearst Castle might be the perfect venue for a sight-seeing event. The historic Hearst Castle is a popular tourist attraction. Daily tours at a minimal fee are available to anyone who is interested in visiting this beautiful structure.
